“Come, whatever you are!” To: Maulana Jalalu-'D-Dln Muhammad Rumi / Ivan Dimov

     Do we hearken to the laments of the reed-flute and its complaints seven centuries after the death of Rumi?

 And whether again each one of us is that “who abides far away from his home” (“The Spiritual Couplets” by Maulana Muhammad Rumi”). The whole world is our home. Each passed century suppresses the boundaries of the globalization. The ancient poet has understood this, and it is up to us to understand it as well.

Every person has solely one home – the soul. The poet reminds us that the “body is not veiled from soul, neither soul from body, yet no man hath ever seen a soul” (“The Spiritual Couplets”). “The little prince” of Antoine de Saint-Exupery has already understood that the most essential and beautiful can only be seen with the heart.

The soul is preserving the person, keeping him save and wherever he travels he always comes back in his inmost world. In the same time all people have one common home – this is our world. In it there is a place for everyone. And each person is incredibly important part of it. And as Carl Gustav Jung said: “and I am a part of the world, one incredibly important milligram without which God has created his world in vain.” Yes – “you’re some weird kind of gold that wants to stay melted in the furnace, so you won’t have to become coins” (“Strange Business” – Rumi) This is why “come, whatever you are” and be a piece of my world, of our world.

The hungry travelers from the story “The travelers who ate the Young Elephant” (Rumi) have forgotten about his parents although the sage has warned them, they caused pain to the parents and as Dostoevsky said nobody can achieve happiness on the back of another’s misfortune. The happiness is reachable if we perceive each one of us as incredibly important milligram, for the existence of the world created by God. The tolerance is the pledge for happiness in our common home. And this is possible if the human soul seeks the wisdom of that traveler which did not eat from the meat of the young elephant. Only he has hearkened to the words of the sage and the parents of the young elephant have spared only him. It is necessary for one to have tolerance between race, religion, political views, esthetical views, at all levels and in every aspect.

In our common home we live “on the lip of insanity, wanting to know reasons, knocking on a door. It opens” so we’ve been “knocking from the inside!” (“Knocking from the Inside” by Rumi). Common are the doors, common are our windows to the world. We are knocking from inside, looking outwards but it is as if we forget about our sameness, we find the differences, but we are blind about the parities. Maulana Muhammad Rumi has saw this identity seven centuries ago.

         We are “source, not result” (“Finding the Illusive Path” – Rumi) and our existence, the temple of our soul depends on the wisdom which we touch and which flies like a bird throughout the centuries. The green branch which the pigeon gave to Noy, the symbol of the salvation, for us now this is the tolerance. With hope which we have inherited from Noy we gaze into the ocean of human relationships seeking the tolerance. We try to stay above the surface, but we are already under it – we are “living within the ocean” (“Under the Surface” – Rumi)

        

         No, we won’t kill the elephant, no matter how hungry we are. We will think about the pain of its parents and we won’t cause them that pain. This will save the elephant’s life and our life.
